Sell My Suzuki

Suzuki is a Japanese car manufacturer that origins were founded in 1909 by Michio Suzuki in the small village of Hamamatsu. The company was first established as the Suzuki Looms Works which built loom machines for weaving as Japan's silk industry boomed. In fact, Suzuki did not venture into cars until 1937 but production plans were halted by the World War Two. Once the conflict came to a close in 1945, Suzuki resumed its loom machine business, aided by USA’s decision to allow the company to export cotton to the country from Japan. However the cotton market collapsed six years later so Suzuki returned to the cars although it would first launch a motorcycle called the 1952 Power Free, a 36cc, one horsepower, two-stroke engine. This enabled the rider to either pedal with support from the engine or pedal without engine assist. The user could also disconnect the pedals and use engine power alone. Suzuki changed its name, officially, to Suzuki Motor Company Limited in 1954 and launched its first automobile, the Suzuki Suzulight a year later. These were all front-wheel drive with transversely-mounted engines. The Suzulight stayed in production until 1969 and is considered a success. Suzuki released a compact pick-up truck, the Suzulight Carry in 1961.

Suzuki achieved motorbike success in the Isle of Man with Ernst Degner winning the 50cc in 1962 followed by Mitsuo Ito winning the TT a year later – the first and only Japanese rider to win the event. Barry Sheene would later win his first Grand Prix at the Dutch TT on a Suzuki. Troy Corser won Suzuki its first Superbike World Championship title in 2005. The Suzuki Swift became one of the company's most popular cars following its launch in 1983 and is still in production today. It helped Suzuki achieve the milestone of selling 10 million cars in 1989. It later branched out to Europe and China having already set up in the USA. The stylish Suzuki Kizashi was launched in 2010 and set a land speed record of 203.720mph in Utah, USA. The executive saloon was released in the UK in 2012. Volkswagen AG bought a 19.9 per cent share in Suzuki in 2010 and is its biggest shareholder. The current Suzuki range includes the Celario, Swift, Jimny, Vitara and Sx4 S-Cross.

Suzuki is perhaps better known for its motorcycles but it has also been producing cars for more than 60 years.
